Aromatherapy - Part II

Aromatherapy is another branch of herbal medicine which utilizes the medicinal properties that comes from special herbs and plants which produces the essential oils.

The use of these oils was dated back from ancient times in China, Italy and Egypt. It was the French chemist Rene Maurice Gattefosse who invented the term aromatherapy in 1937.

At present, aromatherapy is widely acceptable in Europe and North America. It is now part of holistic treatments and it is commonly used in treatments done at various spas and it also known to be produced as massage oils, candles and other relaxation products.

Some of the sources of essential oils are:

  • oils from flowers
  • stems
  • leaves
  • branches
  • buds
  • roots of plants which are extracted through steam or
    Cold pressing

Aromatherapy is used to treat various conditions which include:
