Chinese herbs have a taken a great part in developing modern drugs. For one, the medication for hay fever and asthma were from Chinese ephedra. At present, there are over three hundred herbs which are popularly used today were actually been used for more than two thousand years and according to clinical studies by Chinese, these herbs are added in the list of useful items and they are expected to add more effectiveness in the modern drug treatments and decrease side effects.
Seven Popular Chinese Herbs
1. Ginger (jiang)
This Chinese herb is good in ventilating the lungs and in warming the circulation in the limbs. Herbalists oftentimes recommend ginger in treating cough because it works as an expectorant. This herb can also be good in treating nausea, motion sickness and food contamination.
2. Licorice (Gancao)
This herb is good in neutralizing toxins, helps in digestion and lessens inflammation. Chinese doctors also used licorice in treating sore throats, hepatitis and muscle spasms.
However, do no take licorice more than the prescribed time as it may create potassium imbalance in your body.
3. Cinnamon (rougi and guizhi)
The barks as well as the twigs of Cinnamon are known to warm the body, improve circulation and synchronize the energy in the lower and upper body.
However, do not use large amounts of cinnamon as this may irritate the liver.
4. Salvia (danshen)
The red deep roots of Salvia are a popular Chinese herb for the past decades. This is given to treat traumatic injuries, inflammation and in other degenerative diseases. This also popular in decreasing blood pressure and cholesterol level and promotes good function of the liver.
5. Peony ((baishao and chihshao)
The roots of Peony are commonly used in regulating the circulation of the blood. This is helpful in relaxing the blood vessels, decreasing the platelet sticking and this also used to have improved circulation of blood to the skin.
6. Coptis (Huanglian)
This herb is considered to be the one of the bitterest herb found in Chinese medicinal herbs that is why it is often taken in tablet or pill form. Its bitter taste is known to treat skin diseases, insomnia and hypertension.
7. Ginseng (renshen)
Ginseng is very popular Chinese herb and this is available in various forms like tea or tablet form.
This herb is considered by many as an aid to prevent diseases as it is known to normalize blood pressure, strengthen immune system, increase oxygen flow and resist fatigue.
