Light Therapy - Part II

Light therapy is a process where a patient is exposed to intense levels of light under controlled environment.

Light therapy is system which is generally consists of various fluorescent bulbs which are installed within a box and whereas the light is seen in the diffusing screen.

This kind of therapy is usually recommended for those people who are suffering for SAD or seasonal affective disorder. Studies show that the light from the light therapy is effective in treating the symptoms of depression during the winter days.

The patient who wants to be part of light therapy is then asked to stay in the light during the treatment session. The patient can comfortably do anything, he or she wants to do except looking directly with his eyes on the screen.

The therapist will recommend to the patient to read, write or even eat meals during the treatment session. Lights from the diffusing screen will help the patient cope up with the depression that he or she feels in association with the long darkness outside during the winter months.

Treatment session usually takes place in fifteen minutes up to three hours and can be done once or twice a day.

You can buy your own light box at around three hundred sixty dollars up to five hundred dollars but at present, there are some medical health providers who don’t acknowledge light therapy as another alternative, consult first with your doctor before you undergo light therapy because some insurance policy may not give reimbursement if is it nor fully recognized by your physician.
