Vitamins - Part II
Vitamins are substances that are naturally found in plants and animals. Vitamins are needed by the body to stay healthy and support different body functions.
There are two main types of vitamins: fat soluble and the water soluble vitamins.
Fat soluble vitamins are the vitamins A, D, E and K. These are dissolved in fat and are stored in the body while the water soluble vitamins are the vitamins C and B complex. These kinds of vitamins are needed to dissolve in the water before the body can really absorb them.
The vitamins C or B that the body does not really need will pass out of your body through the urine that is why vitamins should be taken on a daily basis.
Vitamins are needed by the body to have normal growth and development. Like Vitamin A, it is needed by the body to prevent eye problems and vitamin K to help blood clot when scrapes and cuts happen while Vitamin B12 is needed to produce red blood cells.
Vitamin C is needed to protect your teeth and gums and helps fight infection while Vitamin E is needed for the formation of red blood cells and it also works as anti-oxidant.
In general, vitamins are needed for optimum body performance as the body undergoes changes especially in puberty years and old age. Vitamins are necessary during teen age years as many changes in the body took place in this stage while in old age, vitamins are also needed because to help the body protect and cope up with aging.
Vitamins are generally good for the body but it is recommended that you don't take any vitamins without the advice of your physician. It is important that you take only the prescribed vitamins and its prescribed dosage because taking it more than what the doctor prescribed may not also bring good results.
